Opening a Halifax Web Saver account
You can hold a maximum of five Web Saver accounts at any one time (includes both sole and joint accounts). Variable Web Saver Extra is limited to just one account per customer.
You can open a joint Web Saver account, but the second named customer will also need to be registered for the online service and accept the Web Saver conditions. The account will show as 'awaiting authorisation' until this has been completed.
Once registered for online banking, the second named customer should add the account to 'My accounts', then select 'awaiting authorisation' on the new account and accept the conditions. If all other account requirements have been satisfied the account will then be fully opened.
Providing identity after opening an account
All account holders are required to prove their identity when opening a new account. If an account status shows as 'awaiting details' it means that there are still some identification details outstanding. You will need to provide suitable identification at your local branch.
Changing the name of a Halifax Web Saver account
You can change the name of your Web Saver depending on what you're saving for, for example 'Holiday' or 'University money'. From your Web Saver page, select 'Tax info, changes, interest and closure' from the left hand menu. Amend the account name then click 'Update'.
Closing a savings account online
The only accounts that can be closed online are a variable rate Halifax Web Saver and variable rate Halifax Web Saver Extra.
To close these accounts, select your account then select 'Tax info, changes, interest and closure' and then 'Close your option'.
If you want to close any other account please visit your local branch.
Current savings interest rate
To view your current savings rate online, select your savings account from 'My accounts'. The current rate is shown at the top of the 'recent transactions' page.
If you would like to view interest rates for any of our personal savings accounts see Personal rates.
Difference between Gross and Net
A Gross amount is an amount or balance before any deductions payable (for example any taxes, NI payments or charges) have been made. The amount remaining after deductions is the Net amount.
