Cruise the reed-fringed Dalyan River and look up to Lycian temple-tombs carved into sheer cliffs, before wallowing in the mud baths. Get lost in Marmaris' maze-like bazaar and climb St Peter's Castle in Bodrum, built by the Knights of Rhodes. Enjoy harbour-side café culture and after-dark partying on your Dalaman holiday.
Head for the hills on your Dalaman holiday to reach Lycian fortress of Kanlı Ağı (Bloody Ali) in Tlos, pausing at Yaka Park to dip your toes in tingling cold pools and eat fresh trout. Explore Kayakoy, an abandoned Greek village in the sleepy Kaya Valley, and stroll waterfront promenades in the unspoilt fishing villages of Göcek and Üçagiz.
Endangered loggerhead sea turtles nest on Iztuzu Beach, flanked by velvety mountains. A turquoise lagoon laps a swathe of golden sand at Olu Deniz, drawing sun worshippers and watersports enthusiasts. Retreat to the windswept dunes on Patara's 14-kilometre sands, the Mediterranean's longest beach, or glimpse the Taurus Mountains from Kas' white pebble coves.
Find blue-glass evil eyes (said to ward off bad spirits) and get up early on a Monday to buy local honey, nuts and spices at Köycegiz market. Shop for red-clay pots, sweet-scented teas, intricate gold jewellery and soft leather bags in the street markets and bazaars. If there's space in your suitcase, invest in a brighty-coloured kilim (Turkish rug) - be prepared to haggle long and hard!
In summer, watch hundreds of leopard butterflies flutter past in the remote Butterfly Valley, backed by steep cliffs. See the Taurus Mountains tumble down to the inky blue waters of the Mediterranean in Fethiye and venture inland to uncover Dalaman's pine forests, citrus and almond groves.
Raft the wild waters of the Dalaman River and snorkel beneath or paraglide above Olu Deniz's lagoon. Thrill seekers traverse waterfalls in the Toparlar Canyon. Bring your walking boots on your Dalaman holiday to tackle part of the 500-kilometre Lycian Trail, or get your adrenalin rush aboard a dolmuş (local minibus) as it whizzes around hairpin bends.
